The second of four 60 minute MapRun challenges took place tonight at Winchburgh. The challenge was to navigate to 20 Grit Boxes as identified on the map, each box was worth 30, 40 or 50 points with a maximum of 750 points on offer if you got all 20, however if you are late 30 points is deducted for every minute or part of a minute you are over 60 mins. The runners had 10 mins to plan the order in which they would visit the Grit Boxes and try an optimise their route.

The winner, Russel, covered 8.45 km in just under 47 mins. Sandy also also nabbed 750 points and was a close 2nd, Caitlin was 3rd, and first female, also with maximum points with a 8.51 km route. Donna, Alan R and David S ran as a team to finish 4th also with 750 points. I suspect Donna was pushing the pace to limit As joke telling. Kirsten was so chuffed to get the maximum points and make it back with 57 secs to spare. Claire W, navigating on her own for the first time, scored an impressive 720 points. Arthur was pleased he made a good decisions and bagged 650 points. David and Hannah ran as a pair and only fell out once which I suspect was a lot less than they expected to do.Both however were please with there 590 points.

There was not much between the Novice runners;- pairs, Katie & Kerry, Eileen & Susan G, Robert & Mags T, and soloist Vic, it will interesting who if any can pull away in the next two events.

Special mention to Lana whose body reminded her tonight that you sometimes have to pay a price for competing in Ultra competitions. Rumour has it that she may have still beaten her mother, although no one was brave enough to point this out to Mags. Talking of rumours, we knew Russel meant business, Liz had been dropped from the dream team and he had remembered his glasses!

We had such an eclectic mic of runners taking part from those that had ran the London Marathon on Sunday, The Devil of the Highlands Ultra on Saturday, The Beecraigs Back Yard Ultra over the weekend and on Saturday morning the Auldcathie Parkrun in the Spring Handicap.

Event three in the "All that Gritters is not Gold" is at Livingston South on Wednesday 27th May, note this is the same night as the WL College 5k. All welcome, start and finish is the Station car park, maps handed out at 6:20pm.
