We are now at the business end of the Spring Handicap. Leagues have been set and double points are up for grabs. Of the 25 LRC finishers at Livingston today 10 were within 15 secs of their handicap time. The latest results are in the Files section. There were 4 PBs Mick, Alastair, Callum and Clare with Danny only 2 secs away from a PB. Jonny was only 9 secs away from a PB in his bid to be top handicapper (in his family)!
Provisional points have been allocated and with 4 weeks left there is plenty of time for these to change. The Conference League looks tight with Alan top after this week, Danny needs to find 11 secs to go top, although Liam has still to register a time.
Familiar names at the top of the Europa League. Sandy Orr rolled the years back this morning with his fastest Parkrun since last June, he provisionally sits top of the Europa League. Callum and Stacey, two new comers have put themselves in the frame for a medal. Clare ran a Lifetime Parkrun PB today to go 2nd.
In the Champions League Phillip posted his 2nd fastest time in the last 16 months today to secure a provisional 18 point lead at the top.
Still a long way to go, well 4 more weeks.
The reason I have included Chariots edition is that it is 100 years since Eric Liddell ran in the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. He won bronze in the 200m before breaking the Olympic Record in winning the 400m final. In total, he ran 8 races on 4 consecutive afternoons. Tuesday 8th July 200m Heat and Quarter final, Wednesday 9th July, 200m Semi and Final, Thursday 10th July 400m Heat and Quarter final, Friday 11th July 400m Semi and Final.
Due to heats being run on a Sunday he gave up the 100m, 4×100m and 4×400m, all of which he could have medalled, yes he was that good.
Born and lived in China, went to a boarding school for the children of missionaries in England, attended the University of Edinburgh, played Rugby for Scotland, returned to work as a missionary in China, died in a Japanese Internment Camp in World War Two. China class him as their first Olympic Gold Medallist, a dual Internationalist, Athletics and Rugby, for Scotland, a GB Olympian. No wonder they made a couple of films about his life.
